Shift Media and McGraw-Hill create a marketing edge

Education consultancy helps publisher bring powerful blended learning package to a new audience

LONDON, ENGLAND, DECEMBER 6, 2003.

Education and learning consultancy Shift Media has partnered with McGraw-Hill International (UK) develop online learning resources provided with the latest edition of its flagship marketing-textbook, David Jobber’s Principles and Practice of Marketing.

For the first time outside the US, marketing students and lecturers can now access PowerWeb, an online database of academically refereed articles and newsfeeds that are updated every twenty minutes.

The twelve-month subscription to PowerWeb included in the Online Learning Centre (OLC) of the 4th edition of Principles and Practice of Marketing ties in to the material of the book directly. This means that students can relate marketing theory from each chapter to specific examples from the real world.

Shift Media used its market knowledge and technical expertise to help McGraw-Hill adapt PowerWeb to its first non-US project and helped the publisher manage the logistics of creating a dynamic companion website for an academic textbook.

Shift Media director Claire Cameron said: “Shift Media helps McGraw-Hill bring their technology from the US over here and make it appropriate to their market and products. We’re making sure that the website and the book are referring to each other, so that we’re creating a blended learning package, rather than two distinct elements.”

Melissa Rosati, Editorial and Production Director, McGraw-Hill International, said: “Shift Media are giving us a competitive advantage by taking their expertise and developing these online learning centres and helping us leverage the best of McGraw-Hill’s US technology for Europe.”

With the new OLC for Principles and Practice of Marketing students can check their progress with Internet exercises and self-test questions at the end of each chapter. Lecturers benefit from ready-made PowerPoint slides and teaching notes and, if they adopt the book as a set text on their course, can also import course content free-of-charge into their university learning management systems, such as Blackboard and WebCT.
