What is a survey? - When to use a survey and when not to - different types of survey - advantages and disadvantages of each - online vs. paper-based vs. telephone vs. face to face.

Survey plans & problem definition
Stages of constructing a successful survey – deciding what information you need.

Sampling and reliability
How many people should you contact? When is itappropriate to generalise a result? Sampling and response rates.

Getting good responses
Improving response rates – avoiding spam filters – improving completion rates.

Writing questionnaires
How to write a questionnaire – what works in different mediums – what doesn’t work - question types – how long should my questionnaire be? - Language.

Analysis and reporting results

Cost & Venue

The cost of the course is £350 + VAT; this will cover all of the above and will also include Lunch and refreshments. A 10% discount is available to ALPSP members and for bookings of 3 or more from the same organisation. The course will take place in Oxford on the 1st April ‘08.
