Subject specific portals

Subject specific portals provide subject specific resources to assist students and lecturers. They can accompany a series of books or a whole subject area and are a useful way of presenting more generalised study information as well as being an effective marketing tool, pointing students towards other texts that may be of interest. It can also be the perfect place to link to book specific companion websites.

Articles on revision and exams are commonly included in a subject site, as well as links to other useful articles on writing for essays and exams from external sites. Wikis, forums and podcasts are all excellent additions to a subject specific portal encouraging interaction and participation by students.

CASE STUDY

Q&A Support, accompanying the Q & A Law Series for Taylor and Francis (part of the informa group).

This subject specific site employs a newsletter style of navigation. Supporting a series of 15 different books on law, the site includes a members forum where users can discuss their exams and share revision tips. Other interesting features included Flash animation, podcasts, and a password protection system that allowed the publisher to maintain an email database with which to contact users with new product updates and information.
We also advised the client on useful software and techniques to enable the site to be routinely updated internally. Visit the Q&A Support website (opens in new window)
